5 Must-Have Baby Items (from a mom of 4!)

5 must have baby items at eatprayreadlove.com

If you’re newly pregnant and beginning to shop around for your sweet little babe, I know it can be overwhelming when you start looking at all the different baby items and wondering what you really need (other than diapers of course!) and what items are wants. There’s so much sweetness oozing out of very aisle in the baby department and you’ll just want it all. However, most of our bank accounts (and square footage!) won’t allow this, but there are some items that we just really think are worth the money. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but here are a few things that even after 4 kids, we still love and recommend!

1.) Aquaphor

Forget other “official” diaper rash creams, this is the best stuff we’ve found. When our son Landon spent time in the NICU as a newborn, this is what they used for him and my aunt, who’s a nurse, also recommended it. It almost always works overnight to clear up diaper rash. Find it here.

2.) “Shoe” socks

Besides being super cute, these are the ONLY socks I’ve found to stay on babies’ little feet. Sometimes they  are a little more expensive than regular socks, but if you aren’t losing one every other day, they definitely come out cheaper! And as an added plus, if your husband refuses to put shoes on a baby, (ahem), these are the perfect compromise. And did I mention they’re cute?

PS you can also get them at Burlington Coat Factory for a really good price.

3.) A boppy

Especially if you plan to breastfeed, this one is indispensable (in my opinion). It makes holding the baby easy and also protected my c-section incision from baby’s kicking feet. You can also prop up baby on the pillow for short periods of time to allow for a different position if they’re tired of lying flat. When baby is learning to sit up, you can sit the baby in the ring, so if he or she topples over, the Boppy catches them.

4.) A baby wrap/carrier

If you read my blog regularly, this is no surprise! (I’m giving one away! Go enter! givcaway over)

I am really bummed I didn’t have one of these wraps with my first 3 kids. It’s just really snugly to have baby against me while I’m around the house or out and about. It really is a favorite. My cousin made this one, but it’s similar to a Moby wrap.

We were also lent a Baby Bjorn to use with Canaan and it’s been amazing. He’s 14 months old and we still use it.

5.) Nursing Gear

I have always used Lanisoh products– their cream and nursing pads are the best. But I also just found out in my last pregnancy about nursing clothes! Wow, they make a difference in nursing in public.

I have this dress from Motherhood Maternity and I love it. It makes nursing in public a breeze. Of course, nursing bras are also a must if you plan to nurse.

So what are your favorite baby products?

Disclosure: any purchase through links to amazon will result in a small commission for me at no additional cost to you, but I assure you I really do love all these items!

  2. I love the smell of baby shampoo. In fact, I forgot just how much I loved it until I used it to help unshrink some clothes. Am I the only one that nestles other babies just for that sweet smell?

  3. Nope, I love how they smell too! And unshrinking clothes? I have NEVER heard of that but do have some clothes I could use it on!

  4. Thanks Kate for joining! Excited about the rest of the year too!

  5. Love this series, Oh all of those baby things I had and loved! I still use aquaphor for J and Z

  6. 1) A play gym. The one they lay on the floor & look up at all the toys on it etc.
    2) Bop, I agree with that. Even not being able to breast feed, we used it to bottle feed him on.
    3) Woombies! If you swaddle but hate your kid getting free from it & crying, the Woombie is for you!
    4) Baby Monitor if you have stairs in your home.
    5) Baby swing.
