20 fun things to do with $20

I love writing about (and doing!) budgeting and giving, but sometimes it’s fun to write about little splurges here and there. I thought it would be fun to come up with 20 fun things to do with $20- like maybe for those times you find a twenty tucked in your back jeans pocket (hallelujah!) or have $20 left over from your grocery run. I’d love to also hear your ideas in the comments!

1.) a new book – as you can probably guess from the name of my blog, reading is one of my very favorite activities. You can find some of my favorites here, all of them under $20. (Alternately, you can get most of them from the library for free!)

2.) 2 manicures- how might you do this, you may ask? Easy, Jamberry nail wraps. They’re one of my favorite “fun” products on the planet. One set will get you enough wraps to do 2 manicures and 2 pedicures. (You can read more here)

3.) a plant for your house- fresh flowers are great, plants that last for a while are even greater!

4.) appetizers at a fun restaurant- $20 probably isn’t enough to buy an entree + a drink + tip at most nicer restaurants, but it sure can get you an appetizer or two. Apps are one of my favorite types of food ever!

5.) a trip to Ulta with a $20 spending limit. there are so many fun new finds at Ulta, just be sure to go in only with your cash or you may find yourself out more than $20. 🙂

6.) new pens. nothing like a fresh new pen, and I rarely think to buy them. These are my brother’s favorite (he’s also a writer) and he got them for Christmas from me as part of his gift.

7.) this fun mug! Can you image getting to use this every morning?

8.) give it away. yep, you heard me right. the most joy can be found through giving, so think of someone in your life who’s had a rough time lately and slip them your twenty. it will certainly brighten his or her day.

9.) a bath and body works candle. they’re my fave, they’re the best. read here to find out how I get them for free sometimes!

10.) these fun measuring spoons. give your kitchen a little color!

11.) a new pair of sandals for summer. these from target are particularly cute, and only $16!

12.) new stationery and stamps. resdiscover the art of writing real notes! something fun for you, a gift for others as well. love, love this set of notecards!

13.) a cookbook. I love flipping through a colorful cookbook for cooking inspiration, especially those of Pioneer Woman. (here’s a recipe of hers that I revamped)

14.) new sunglasses. I never, ever, ever spend more than $15 on sunglasses because they are always going to get lost, or broken, or swept away in the ocean like they did this weekend. Here are some cute, affordable pairs at Target that are currently buy 1, get 1 50% off!

15.) a pair of earrings- fun, easy way to spice up your outfit. this pair is cute, and also reminds me of 7th grade.

16.) dessert for you and a friend. my favorite places in Houston? the chocolate bar and dessert gallery. yum.

17.) find something on etsy. support handmade artists 🙂

18.) a new set of drinking glasses. sometimes, it’s just good to refresh your collection.

19.) a new belt. another cheap way to add interest to your outfit.
