Book Review {The Grace Effect}

 I feel like I’m finally getting back into my reading groove. It helps that I am getting free books from Booksneeze. 🙂 If you are a Christian blogger who loves to read, I highly recommend you apply for their book review program.

Over the past few days, I was deeply engrossed in this book:

I was intrigued by the reviews of this read, so I couldn’t wait to dive in. It did not disappoint.

Larry Taunton and his wife Lauri and two of their three sons travel to the Ukraine to adopt a precious 10 year old girl, Sasha. Lauri and her sons had met Sasha on a previous mission trip to the Ukraine and fell in love with her.

This book tells the grueling  process of adopting from a country that is overcome with corruption and greed, and how in the end, redeeming this beautiful girl’s life was worth every minute of frustration.

It is not just a story of Sasha’s adoption, however. Taunton is a renowned apologist for the Christian faith, debating atheists such as Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens. Woven throughout the fascinating story of the adoption are his thoughts on Christianity, grace, and what makes our faith different from others.

Don’t be surprised: Larry Taunton is in no way politically correct. He does not mince words about his feelings about those who mock Christianity, but he also speaks with compassion and clarity and is personal friends with many atheists.

 For me, this book was a great call to realize how profoundly true Christianity affects our world for the good, despite often-negative media attention. And it all boils down to one word: Grace.

I highly recommend adding this to your must-read list!
