Ask for a Discount? {31 Days of Financial Savvy: Day 2}

31 days of financial savvy: ask for a discount

One way we save money is by almost never paying full price for clothes. I know this is nothing new for many of you, but I love sharing how to get stylish clothes on a budget. If you’ve been following along for long, you may remember that I emptied about half of my closet in February for The Closet Project.

Many of my clothes are ill-fitting since I’m losing weight, and at least half of my wardrobe is maternity clothes! I took a trip to Ross a few weeks ago to get a dress for the semi-formal function I had that night… and then I picked up another dress. It was marked $12.99 but had a very faint stain on the front (that came out) so I asked for an additional discount, which they gladly gave me. I believe I ended up paying $11 for it, and I love it!

And the best part? The dress has pockets! One of the best things. Ever.

I wore the dress to the first night of my blogging conference, although I didn’t get a single picture. So I wore it again to church on Sunday so I could get pictures. And forgot again. So yesterday we did a mini-photo shoot in the backyard by our cute little red storage barn. It felt a little weird going out in my backyard (that needs mowing terribly) in the middle of the day in heels and a dress, but I guess we do what we gotta do, right?

The bracelet is part of a set of three I got at Forever21 for $14.99. Hard to believe I spent more on the jewelry than the dress, but I was on vacation when I got the bracelets and my judgment was impaired!

Anyway, when I was walking around in the shopping center where the conference I attended was held, I spied this dress at Anthropologie- not identical to mine but very close. The price tag? $198! (I mean, my wedding dress was only $299!)

So is not having a name brand worth it for a discount of $187? In my book, that’s a resounding yes!

Where do you like to buy clothes?

  1. Oooo, so what conference did you go to? I’m in the same boat with my wardrobe too, and it’s frustrating. Good job on finding a steal!

    • I went to Blog Elevated in Houston. It was my first one ever and it was so much fun!
      Also, this post wasn’t supposed to go live until tomorrow (oops!) so the pics aren’t in it yet,you’ll have to come back and see them tomorrow! 🙂

  2. I’d definitely take no-name brand clothes for just a few dollars than lots of dollars for a similarly pretty dress!

  3. So cute! I hate paying retail for anything! Believe it or not I have been finding a lot of cute clothes at Wal-Mart!!

  4. Our family LOVES Burlington coat factory!
