Sausage Cheddar Scones

Ingredients
  • 3 cups flour
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. baking soda
  • ¾ tsp. salt
  • 1 cup Johnsonville Sausage links (about 6 pieces sausage) cut into 5 pieces each
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1.5 sticks butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk, or ½ cup milk plus 1 Tbs. vinegar
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Cook sausage until almost done, about 5 minutes. (It will finish cooking in the oven)
  3. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt.
  4. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
  5. Combine wet ingredients separately, then add in sausage and cheese..
  6. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  7. Form into two equal-sized balls. Roll each ball out into a circle approximately 10 inches in diameter.
  8. Cut each circle into 8 equal sized triangles using a pizza cutter.
  9. Or, instead of triangle-shaped scones, shape the dough into approximately 18 2.5-inch balls.
  10. Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes, on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray, until slightly golden.
