Sausage Cheddar Scones

Recipe type: brunch, breakfast
- 3 cups flour
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- ¼ tsp. baking soda
- ¾ tsp. salt
- 1 cup Johnsonville Sausage links (about 6 pieces sausage) cut into 5 pieces each
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1.5 sticks butter
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup buttermilk, or ½ cup milk plus 1 Tbs. vinegar
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Cook sausage until almost done, about 5 minutes. (It will finish cooking in the oven)
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt.
- Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Combine wet ingredients separately, then add in sausage and cheese..
- Combine wet and dry ingredients.
- Form into two equal-sized balls. Roll each ball out into a circle approximately 10 inches in diameter.
- Cut each circle into 8 equal sized triangles using a pizza cutter.
- Or, instead of triangle-shaped scones, shape the dough into approximately 18 2.5-inch balls.
- Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes, on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray, until slightly golden.
