The Best Books for Toddlers

from the archives: originally posted 5.1.2012

Since my unintentional bloggy break, I’ve spent a lot of the extra time reading to my kiddos, so I thought I would share some of our tried-and-true favorite children’s books. They are a random assortment to be sure, but ones that we really love and I think are among the best books for toddlers.

1.) Corduroy

This one has been one of my favorites since I was a child. My sister gave it to our son when he was younger, and my 5- year-old daughter now loves it. It’s one I don’t tire of reading, which is good, since Allie loves a repeat (or 50) on her faves!

2.) Who Lives on the Farm?

This was a book we bought for Landon when he was a baby, and he loved it. In fact, when I asked him what his favorite book was when he was younger, he immediately named this one. Now our 17 month old loves it as well. She carries it around and names the animals. She can actually say quite a few- goose, duck, cow. It’s pretty cute! It’s a board book and the pictures are really big and bright- babies love it!

Sadly no longer available on Amazon. Oh, and if you want it new from Amazon, a new copy starts at only $151.31!?! Seriously? But good news, a used copy starts at a penny.  🙂

3.) The Jesus Storybook Bible

You may have heard lots of hype for this one, but it’s there for a reason! This is no watered down version of the Bible. It’s a beautiful portrayal of how each.and.every. story in the Bible points to Christ, including the stories in the Old Testament.

The illustrations are beautiful as well- it truly is an overall winner!

4.) Farmer McPeepers and His Missing Milk Cows

This book is simply a silly, cute kids book. Farmer McPeppers’ cows have gone missing, and he goes all over town looking for them. (without his glasses- oops!) My almost-seven-year-old (HOW can that be??) still loves me to read this one to him!

5.) Love you Forever

I can’t read this one to my kids without tearing up a little. It is such a sweet, sweet story of a mother’s love for her son- even when he is a stinky teenager that seems like he belongs in the zoo! (One of my kids favorite lines!)

This would make a perfect baby shower gift for a first-time mom.
