One of my very favorite parts of summer is all the grilling we do. First reason I love it: The food is amazing. Second reason: it doesn’t heat up the kitchen. Third reason: hubby does most of the cooking 😉 A few weeks ago we tried something new and made Honey Basil Lime Grilled Ribs. I could not get enough of them!

One of our neighbors from our previous house came over with her kids to kick off the summer! We had such a good time relaxing, catching up, and enjoying the weather before Houston becomes unbearably hot.

When I was getting the ribs ready to grill, I used Sweet Honey KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub that I grabbed in Kroger on the condiment aisle. I love this stuff because you can customize it to taste however you want!

You can use the dry rub as is, or add liquid such as soda, juice, water, or liquor to make a customized sauce. Besides the Sweet Honey flavor, it also comes in Original. I chose to use lime juice plus basil to make our BBQ sauce. It was crazy easy to make and turned out so good!

We had so much fun at our simple party, and I spent less than $20 on the decor using these tips for decorating an outdoor party on a budget!

1.) Shop your house

centerpiece

All of the “vases” I used for this party were things I already owned- Mason jars, coffee bottles, clear cups etc. I just used every clear vessel I could get my hands on! The centerpiece jar is actually the utensil holder that sits by my stove!

2.) Pick up fresh flowers while you’re at the grocery store

One thing I’ve fallen in love with the past year is fresh flowers. About once a week, I’ll pick up a bouquet while I’m grocery shopping. I got these beautiful white flowers at Kroger. Flowers add such a beautiful touch to any table, but I think they’re especially pretty outdoors.

3.) Carefully select an item or two that you know you’ll use again

While I was at Kroger, I got new durable plates for outdoor dining. Our set was old and I found a great deal on 4-packs. They also happened to match my color scheme, so hooray!

4.) Keep activities simple

People mostly just want to get together and hang out, so elaborate activities aren’t usually necessary. When we host outdoor parties, we have horseshoes set up for the adults and the kids just run around and play. Or, do this:

All the kids that visit our house love our new donkey!

The idea, though, is to just to create an atmosphere where people want to hang out and enjoy one another.
