How to Make Residual Income on a Blog Post

Hi there! I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while, ever since I wrote my “How I Get Bath and Body Works For Free Post” in September 2014. It’s been hugely popular on Pinterest AND better yet, making income ever since- without my ever having to touch it again. (Besides a little promotion here and there!)

How to make residual income on blog posts

See, I love doing sponsored posts (like this one!) and love that they bring income to my family while doing something I love. But, once I’m paid for that post, the income stops there. I wanted to write something that would continue to bring in money on a year-round basis.

I love using Swagbucks, and I love that I get free stuff just for using their search engine instead of a larger one, like Google. I’m able to get free Bath and Body works (or free Amazon giftcards, etc) so I wanted to share that with a broad audience. Many people don’t know about Swagbucks, so I wanted to share the love! By linking to both Swagbucks and eBates in the post- two sites I use regularly and highly endorse- the post is very informational and one that people love.

At the time of writing this post, the blog post I’m referring to has had approximately 22,000 views and has made over $300 $400 $500 since September- and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down on the income! While it’s not a huge amount of income, it keeps coming and as I mentioned earlier- the work was done back in September and it’s still making money.

How to Make Residual Income on a Blog Post

How 1 Blog Post Has Made Me over $500!

If you’re want to know how to make residual money on a blog post, here are a few tips:

1.) Pick a topic that you love

Trying to write about (and make money from) a topic you don’t enjoy most likely won’t get the engagement you’re looking for. I love saving money, I love Bath and Body Works, so this post was a perfect topic for me.

Conversely, it’s best if you write about something you actually have experience with. I had one reader comment on the original post that Swagbucks was a scam, but I knew better since I use it all.the.time. If I didn’t have any experience, I might have believed her.

2.) Choose your links well, and link away!

While I do link to Amazon and other places as an affiliate, I LOVE using Swagbucks as my money-making link because the pay-out is $2.50 per sign-up- and the person who signs up isn’t out a penny! The payout for eBates is even better!

After you choose where you’ll link, be sure to link often throughout your post. The easier you make it for your readers to click, the more money you’ll make. (See how I keep linking to eBates and Swagbucks? 😉 )

3.) “Sell” what you’re selling with out being pushy

No one likes a pushy salesperson, and the blogging world is no exception. Present your information and talk about how much you like it, why you like it, etc, but incorporate it into your post as organically as possible.

In the post about B&BW, I talk about how much I like it but that it’s not in my budget all the time, SO … this brings me to #4…

4.) Offer a solution to your readers

People are searching the web for solutions to problems, and YOU have SOME solution to SOME problem that people want to know! Think about what topic you have mastered, figure out a great way to monetize it, and write your post!

Writing a post that brings in residual income is a great way to make good use of your time by adding money to your bank account on a long-term basis.

  1. Thanks for this information. I’m just starting out and am trying to cram all the knowledge I can into my brain. I had no idea was swagbucks was.

  2. Thanks I signed up for Swagbucks a few months ago at the same time I signed up for some online surveys. I gave up on the surveys pretty quickly. I need to return to Swagbucks; I have been reading some good things about them. I am stopping by from Thrifty Thursday link party.

  3. I use swagbucks as well. Although I do not get as much as other do.

  4. Thank you for sharing this information. Definitely something to consider for the very near future.

    Cheers!

  5. does swag bucks actually pay you to have someone sign up or is it like from referral points? I’ve used swag bucks for several years, if they pay now for referrals I’ll be working harder on getting those.

  6. ok, you talked me into it, I’ll definitely be clicking on you swagbucks link since I’m not familiar with it. Lol. Thanks for the info. Love your way of writing:)
