It’s Finally Here!

Remember a few months ago when I wrote about a new restaurant coming to Houston? Well, I’m so excited to announce that the Houston area is now the proud home to a brand-new El Pollo Loco restaurant! On Monday, October 6, the Sugar Land restaurant opened its doors to the public for the first time. I was lucky enough to be able to attend the grand opening last week, with these handsome guys as my dates:

We got to try several different dishes from the restaurant at the event. I think my boys tried everything there! The ribbon cutting was also fun- I’ve never been to one before!

Thanks to my friend Brittany from Creativity Arise for the photo. Although my dates were cute, they made me a little slow moving so I missed this shot!

I’ve been talking about small changes on the blog this month, and grabbing El Pollo Loco as your fast food of choice would be a small change worth making! It’s so much fresher and healthier than your standard fast food fare.

I had the chance to talk with one of the corporate chefs, Gabe Segovia, about what sets El Pollo Loco part from typical drive through (besides the amazing flavor of the food!).

Segovia filled me on some of the behind-the-scenes action of the restaurant. “All of our food is fresh,” he said.  “We make fresh guacamole everyday from real avocados. All of our chicken is grilled for an hour- that’s not typical for a QSR.” (quick service restaurant.)

And not typical it surely is! From their stuffed quesadillas to their chicken tostada salad to their churros (which I praised in this post– they are SOOO good!), El Pollo Loco truly has something for everyone. At the grand opening, I really enjoyed the grilled chicken drumsticks and the grilled chicken salad.

 I’m super excited about El Pollo’s new tenure in the Houston area, and can’t wait for one to open close to us! There are new locations in Copperfield and Katy still to come in 2014, with more to follow in 2015.
