No Other gods Before me

The other morning, I was doing my Bible study for BSF. If you haven’t heard of BSF, I highly encourage you to check it out here. I did 1.5 years of the study a long time ago, and just started up again with the study of Moses. So back to the other morning. I was reading the 10 Commandments, which no doubt I’ve read hundreds of times before. Even most non-Christians know most of these! Anyway, as I was reading, the first commandment really stuck out to me. “You shall have no other gods BEFORE me.”

It hit me in a way I’d never thought of. I’ve always thought of it in sequential order of importance- God first, then everything else, which of course is what we should strive for. But what hit me that day, was that nothing should come before God chronologically- he should be the start of my day. He should be first on my mind, and spending time with him should be a joy and my priority in the mornings. I get up early many days of the week, but usually it’s to get laundry started or my blogging work done for the day.

My intentions to do my Bible study early are almost always there, but usually by the time I get done with my “stuff” the kids are up. So the last few days, I’ve spent time with God first. Sometimes it’s reading my Bible, sometimes it’s been prayer. It’s been so refreshing, too- a few mornings I’ve reached for my phone or computer first and I felt God saying, “No other gods before me.” And when I’m too attached to anything, it DOES become a god rather I want to admit it or not.

I love reading so much, too, and learning from other Christians. A goal of mine this year has been to read more non-fiction Christian books instead of the novels I’m usually drawn to. I’m so excited to be sharing about this Christian Living Ultimate Bundle. It has 75 e-books, plus bonuses for just $34.95. I’m thinking this would make a fantastic Christmas present for someone in your life, or even something you could request yourself. 🙂

This bundle has books from Gary Chapman, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Zig Ziglar, and so many more. If you’d like to see more information, click here.

Even though I’ve been a Christian most of my life and in church my whole life, there is so much for me to learn and so many things I look forward to changing. I love this quote by Nancy Leigh DeMoss:

So how about you? Do you enjoy reading? How do you put God before anything else in your life?

Comments

  1. Good word Kelli! I’ve been loving BSF and this week has been amazing!

  2. Kellie..thanks for sharing this post! I really try to carve out time to study God’s word and pray each morning. I find it is easier to put all my focus on God that way. I am also usually encouraged by something I’ve read. I pray for others and thank God for all He has done for me. I thank Him in advance for His direction, and guidance throughout the day! I am thrilled to see you sharing your faith while incorporating other aspects of your life in your blog. As a newer blogger myself this is very encouraging and enlightening. May God continue to bless you and yours!
