Saving on Electricity Costs ($75 giftcard offer!)

Oh my word it is SO hot here in Texas! I’m so very thankful for having air conditioning (seriously, it’s like in my top 10), but we all know that leads to increased electricity bills. That’s why I’ve come up with a few tips for saving on electricity costs this summer.

tips for saving on electricity costs

Turn up the thermostat

This one is pretty obvious, but just turn up the unit to a degree or two higher than you usually do. It may seem to warm at first, but you will most likely acclimate pretty quickly.

Consider adding a radiant barrier in your attic.

We did this when we had our house built and I’ve never regretted it. We have a pretty large house and our electric bills have never been exorbitant.

Leave the house during the day

This one may seem a little crazy, but pack up the kids and do some free or cheap stuff: a public pool, the library, get a cheap ice cream cone at McDonald’s and enjoy the playplace. Turn your a/c up to 85 while you’re out and enjoy the cold air that’s provided at the other places!

Switch electric companies!

This has been a HUGE money saver for us! Every few months, I’ll shop around and find a great deal on a new energy provider. Right now, Direct Energy is offering my readers a $75 prepaid giftcard when you switch to them! Click here to switch to Direct Energy and use code LIVEBRIGHTER75 to get a $75 pre-paid giftcard when you do!

Direct Energy has also implemented a “Direct Your Energy” tool that allows you to track your energy usage (with heat maps, a breakdown by appliances, and more) and also gives you insights that spell out what your energy costs actually mean.

Visit: www.directenergy.com/direct-your-energy for more information on this incredible new tool.

Also, Direct Energy is the only energy provider to be a part of Plenti points! Plenti lets you earn points at one place and use them at another, all within a single rewards program so that keeping track of your rewards is simple. New customers will be able to earn 1,000 Plenti points at enrollment when they sign up for Plenti at www.Plenti.com and link their Plenti card number to their Direct Energy account; Existing Direct Energy customers will also earn 1,000 Plenti point when they sign up for Plenti and link their Plenti card number to their Direct Energy account. Click here to sign up!

Paying for electricity is never fun, but I’m so thankful for companies like Direct Energy who are truly looking out for the customer and helping us find ways to save!
