Sweets + Treats and my month of non-Whole30

The month of January, I was on Whole30. I fully embraced it, but knowing my birthday was mid-February, I knew that re-starting it right away would not be a good decision. 🙂

Suffice it to say, I have enjoyed my birthday month very much, from Mexican food to Italian food, sodas to ice cream, ending perfectly with homemade (seriously cheesy) chicken spaghetti, dinner rolls and pecan pie last night made by my mom. YUM! So many delicious sweets and treats.

Anyway, one place that is great to get (super-economical) treats and sweets is El Pollo Loco. If you’ve read my blog long, you KNOW how I feel about their churros. I was seriously miffed at my 2-year-old last month when we went to EPL for lunch and he stole the one bite I was reserving for myself. But he’s cute and I got over it.

chocolate churro

Here’s my cute little 4-year old trying to sneak a chocolate churro. The chocolate version was yummy, but I say go with the original!

sweets and treats

The closest EPL is still about 20 minutes away from us, but when my husband took one bite of the Cheesecake Chimichanga, he decided he would drive 20 minutes just for one of those! They are seriously yummy- the cheesecake is creamy and cold on the inside, and the outer shell is deliciously crispy and warm. SO GOOD I tell ya!

chips and dips

Their chips and dips options are delicious, too. What Texan doesn’t love a good queso? And their guacamole is made from fresh avocados- none of the fake junk that some restaurants try to pass off as guac. They make it fresh in-store every day!

My daughters just wanted a plain quesadilla for their lunch, which cost around $1.49 each. Can’t beat that for an inexpensive snack or meal! We also got a few chicken drumsticks, which are citrus fire-grilled everyday in-store, and they were so flavorful and juicy!

Even though I’m headed back on Whole30 soon, I love knowing that EPL has delicious treats and sweets for a cheat day! (And they have great Whole30 food too! Check it out!)
