the answer is YES!

(from the archives. originally posted 7.10.2012)

As I have said before, I (un-biasedly!) think my hubby is both an excellent preacher and pastor. Every week, he spends hours and hours studying, writing, researching, and praying over each and every sermon. Last week, he preached about God keeping his promises.

One of the verses Ben used in his sermon was 2 Corinthians 1:20:

Isn’t that beautiful? If God has promised it, the answer is YES in Christ!

Some of the points in the sermon were as follows:

1) Sometimes the promise is a lot slower than we’d expect.

We are studying the life of David, and he used the example of David’s kingship- he was told at age 17 that he would be king of Israel, but it was not until he was 30 that this promise was actually fulfilled. Thirteen years of waiting! Can you even imagine- especially when he saw all of Saul’s (his predecessor as king) bad choices.

2) Sometimes we are in need of preparation before the promise comes true.

David had many, many lessons to learn before he became king.

We truly need to listen when God says, “You’re not ready.”

3) A promise is not ours to take by force, but God’s to give by grace

Isn’t that beautiful? If we go out seeking something, we may get what we think we want, but most likely it will leave us disappointed. But if God gives it to us, we can be assured it is a good gift. (James 1:17) We don’t need to rush, manipulate, or run ahead of god. If God has spoken, it will come true!

What promise are you waiting to have fulfilled?
