The Importance of Family Traditions

Our family is big on traditions- from big to small. One of our favorites is cooking what the kids call a “fancy” meal, which is usually chicken pot pie. 😉 We use our nice dishes and crystal iced tea cups, actually set the table, get dressed up and share an un-rushed meal. It’s really magical.

Usually, this “fancy” meal involves the whole family, but the other night all the guys were at an Astros game so the girls and I decided to have our own.

One thing that has its place on our table at every meal is tea. Since we’re good Southerners and all, sweet tea is definitely at the top of that list. The kids love that when we have a fancy meal, they get to drink their tea out of our crystal glasses.  It’s one drink everyone in the family agrees on- which is a miracle in itself, plus it’s a better choice than soda.

(Side note: I remember always drinking sweet tea myself growing up. One funny story: we had company over one night when I was about 7. I snuck back in the kitchen to get more sweet tea for myself. It wasn’t sweet enough for my liking, so I dumped a TON more sugar into it. I took a sip- and spit it out immediately. The “sugar” was actually the salt shaker! I do NOT recommend doing that. 😉 )

It was so much fun- shopping together, cooking together, getting dressed up, eating the meal we had prepared, then gathering on the couch to watch a movie and eat ice cream. When the girls and I were picking up stuff for this meal, we grabbed the 100 ct. of Lipton Iced Tea. Our family is so big, we like to buy big- be sure to stock up on Lipton Iced Tea at Albertson’s during their Stock Up Sale going on for the next few weeks!

We put the tea it in our beautiful new pitcher, which is now part of our “fancy” meal tradition.

Drinking iced tea always reminds me of being at home with my parents, which is a good thing. (Minus the whole salt incident. 😉 )

Sometimes we get in ruts with our meals, so it’s fun to Refresh Your Meal Routine with Lipton Ice Tea. How do you refresh your meal routine?

  1. We love Lipton too! We get the k-cups and the kids just love them. It makes me happy when they both prefer tea over any other drink 🙂
