Chocolate Almond Scones

Ingredients
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. baking soda
  • ¾ tsp. salt
  • ⅓ cup chopped dark chocolate
  • ⅔ cups toasted almond slivers
  • 1.5 sticks butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk, or ½ cup milk plus 1 Tbs. vinegar
  • Glaze:
  • 1 large egg whisked with 1 T milk and
  • 1 T. turbinado sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
  4. Add in chocolate and almonds.
  5. Combine wet ingredients separately.
  6. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  7. Form into two equal-sized balls. Roll each ball out into a circle approximately 10 inches in diameter.
  8. Cut each circle into 8 equal sized triangles using a pizza cutter.
  9. Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes, until slightly golden.
