Chocolate Almond Scones

- 3 cups flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- ¼ tsp. baking soda
- ¾ tsp. salt
- ⅓ cup chopped dark chocolate
- ⅔ cups toasted almond slivers
- 1.5 sticks butter
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup buttermilk, or ½ cup milk plus 1 Tbs. vinegar
- Glaze:
- 1 large egg whisked with 1 T milk and
- 1 T. turbinado sugar for sprinkling
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt.
- Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Add in chocolate and almonds.
- Combine wet ingredients separately.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients.
- Form into two equal-sized balls. Roll each ball out into a circle approximately 10 inches in diameter.
- Cut each circle into 8 equal sized triangles using a pizza cutter.
- Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes, until slightly golden.
