Book Review: {The Encounter}, and a Giveaway!

Sometimes, God asks us to do really hard things. Sometimes, we don’t want to do it. But always, if we do what he asks, the blessings are greater than we could have imagined!
Through the BookSneeze book review program, I was given the opportunity to read The Encounter by Stephen Arterburn (founder of Women of Faith). I was looking for a quick, yet intriguing read, and that is exactly what I got!
Jonathan Rush, the novel’s central character, is back in Fairbanks, Alaska for the first time since he was nine years old. He is looking for the mother who abandoned him, along with an explanation of the reasons he was forsaken at the young age of four. He has lived a life filled with bitterness, rage, and broken relationships and upon the advice of a friend, decides that forgiving his mother is the only way to wholeness.
Rush spends several days in Alaska looking for the woman who gave him birth, and learns several life lessons along the way. I thought the bitter, biting cold in the sub-zero temps was a good setting for the book since it reflected Rush’s attitude in life thus far- although, who could blame him? He was abandoned by the very person who was supposed to live him most.
I got the book on Friday night and read it by Sunday night- this used to be common for me but now with three kids, it usually takes me much, much longer. This work of fiction, however, was one that had me drawn in from the opening pages. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys reading novels, and anyone who needs help finding the strength to forgive.

And now, for the best part! I am giving away my copy of this book to one of my readers.

  16. Oh gosh, that is tough. I would have to say Wuthering Heights is my fav book… all the drama. :0) I LOVED that book as a teen/young adult. Although I re-read it awhile back, and I definitely view it in a different light now that I’m a mother. I also loved Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I would say that’s a favorite, too. In fact, I love all her books. What’s your fav?

    Love,
    Jamie
